MEXICO CITY, MEXICO.- On Friday, February 17th, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, declared during his daily press conference that the United States does very little to prevent the demand and consumption of illicit substances such as fentanyl.
“Also take into account that drug use occurs in the US and that the government does very little to prevent the demand or increase in the use of fentanyl and other drugs.
“The question is what are they doing with their young people? What are they doing to stop the harm that drugs cause? How much does the US government allocate to anti-drug campaigns?” AMLO said.
These statements were made after the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) asked Mexico to “do more” against the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartels, which the US blamed for dominating the global supply chain of fentanyl.
