Pedestrian bridge falls into sewage canal in Neza, State of Mexico

A pedestrian bridge, located in front of the Los Rosales Cemetery, on the limits of the municipalities of Nezahualcóyotl and Chimalhuacán, collapsed when users were crossing the structure on the afternoon of November 2, in Estado de México.

According to information from Adolfo Cerqueda Rebollo, mayor of Nezahualcóyotl, the accident left at least 13 people injured, since part of the structure fell into the sewage canal called La Compañía.

“I inform you that a pedestrian bridge that connects our municipality with Chimalhuacán suffered a collapse, so far 13 injured people have been reported,” the official wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Given this, Cerqueda Rebollo explained that the injured people are not serious and are being treated by the rescue and fire services, in addition to some being transferred to nearby hospitals.

“Our emergency services continue to work in coordination with the state and federal government. I will keep you informed,” Cerqueda Rebollo said on social networks.

Local authorities claim that this bridge is used as an alternative to visit the Los Rosales Cemetery, so at the time of the collapse at least 13 people were passing by. Citizens, on social media, reported that the fall of the metal structure was due to a lack of maintenance and rusty iron.
