Thursday’s marches will cause blockades in Mexico City

Today, November 20, 2025, the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, Mexico City will experience severe traffic disruptions due to marches and demonstrations that will cause blockages on major streets and avenues.

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to avoid Paseo de la Reforma because the Generation Z March will gather at the Angel of Independence and the Garibaldi-Lagunilla Metro station on Line 8, and will proceed to the Zócalo.

Under the slogan “Mexico does not surrender, Mexicans to the cry of war,” the demonstrators seek to express their discontent regarding security and working conditions. They also demand compliance with their list of demands, which aims to strengthen institutional checks and balances and mechanisms for citizen participation.

What are the demands of the Generation Z March?

Creation of a citizen-led recall mechanism that allows for the immediate removal of the President of Mexico from office, independent of electoral processes, and that, in the event of a recall, the replacement be elected through a direct, extraordinary vote, without the intervention of political parties or Congress.
Prohibition of partisan interference in political processes.
Protection against vote buying and coercion through independent oversight of social programs.
A profound reform of the justice system through a Citizens’ Council.
The creation of a new structure of popular representation in both Houses of Congress, eliminating privileges.
The demilitarization of internal security and the strengthening of local security, with citizen audits and independent committees.
The integration of voices with “moral authority” into the citizens’ councils and the opening of a public consultation process.
March of the Independent Union of Academic Workers of the UNAM.
The Independent Union of Academic Workers of the UNAM will hold a march at 12:00 from the Faculty of Economics to the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.

They are demanding a 100% salary increase and a program guaranteeing job security and career advancement for faculty, with the right to tenure and full-time and part-time positions, as well as the integration of the Incentive Program for Productivity and Performance of Adjunct Academic Staff into the base salary of professors.

At 9:00 a.m., UNAM students will demonstrate at the UNAM Rector’s Tower, located at Insurgentes Sur No. 3000, University City, Coyoacán borough. They will express their discontent with the administration of Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum due to insecurity and poor living conditions.

A march within University City is possible, as is traveling by various means of transportation to the Angel of Independence monument to join the protest that will proceed to the Zócalo.
