It’s coming to the U.S. Embassy! Third march against gentrification in Mexico City called: date and time

This Saturday, July 26, the third march against gentrification will take place, organized by the Youth Housing Front.

The march will go from the Hemiciclo a Juárez to the U.S. Embassy, in a demonstration that seeks to denounce the dispossession of communities, forced displacement, and the advance of real estate capital.

How much does it cost to buy an apartment in “high-value” areas in Mexico City?

The group is calling on residents of working-class neighborhoods, activists, and solidarity organizations to join this day of protest—starting at 2:00 p.m.—under the slogan: “Against dispossession, gentrification, imperialism, and the capital that expels us from our neighborhoods and our lives. We will go out to shout down what they are trying to silence!”

The mobilization responds to the growing phenomenon of gentrification in various areas of the city, where rising housing prices, the arrival of corporations, and tourism have transformed the social fabric, causing an excessive displacement of the original inhabitants.

The organizers warn that this process is not isolated, but rather part of a global strategy that responds to economic and political interests.

With this march, the Youth Housing Front seeks to raise awareness of the struggle for the right to the city and decent housing, demanding that authorities halt policies that favor real estate speculation—especially involving foreign capital—and the eviction of local residents in the face of rising housing costs.
