Google Addresses Delayed Payments for Some YouTube Creators in Mexico

Google has responded to concerns from some YouTubers who have not received payment for their content in Mexico and other Latin American countries. The issue was raised during a press conference by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, which led to a statement from the company.

According to Google, a limited number of creators are experiencing delayed payments due to a disbursement issue with one of its banking partners. The company is working closely with its banking partners to resolve this issue and release the funds as soon as possible.

The delay is not related to an alert issued by the Treasury Department against some entities in the Mexican financial system, but rather a problem with the payment processor. This has raised eyebrows among some creators who are accustomed to receiving timely payments from YouTube.

“We’re very punctual, except for one time when they were two days late,” said Betsy Doodles, a popular YouTuber with 1.7 million followers, in an interview with Bloomberg Línea. “But it was the end of the year and there were problems with a certain platform.”

To receive payment from YouTube, creators must earn a minimum of MXN$1,200 (approximately US$64) per month. The money comes primarily from ads inserted into videos, but also from communities and subscriptions offering exclusive content.

The incident has sparked concerns about the reliability of the payment system for YouTubers in Mexico. Finance Secretary Edgar Amador attempted to reassure creators during President Sheinbaum’s press conference that the transfer system is functioning normally, but the issue remains a topic of discussion among the YouTube community.
