A Vibrant Tribute to Tenochtitlan: Mexico City’s Day of the Dead 2025 Ofrenda

While it may seem like a long way off, preparations are already underway for one of Mexico City’s most iconic traditions: the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos). The city is gearing up to host an impressive ofrenda in the Zócalo, dedicated to commemorating the 700th anniversary of the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlan.

The Monumental Offering in the Zócalo will be a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike, featuring a unique blend of marigold flowers, altars, pre-Hispanic elements, and contemporary art. The installation is set to open on October 25 and remain available to the public until November 2.

The call for participation in designing the ofrenda has been published, inviting artists, designers, architects, and creative collectives to submit their proposals. The winning design will be chosen by citizen vote and showcased in front of thousands of visitors.

In addition to the ofrenda, other emblematic events of the Day of the Dead season have announced their dates. The Mega Catrinas Procession 2025 is a highlight, featuring hundreds of catrinas parading through Mexico City’s streets in themed contingents. This spectacular event will take place on Sunday, October 26.

The exhibition of monumental alebrijes will also be a major attraction, with a parade taking place on Saturday, October 18, followed by an outdoor exhibition from October 18 to November 9 on Paseo de la Reforma.

Save the date and get ready to experience the vibrant colors, aromas, music, and tradition that make Mexico City’s Day of the Dead celebration one of the most significant events in national and international tourism.
