The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) reported that 12 people were trapped in the elevators of the Torre Latinoamericana.
Emergency services and firefighters arrived at the scene to free the people trapped inside the building.
According to reports on social media, the group had been trapped in the elevator for about an hour.
“We had to break the top of the elevator to get them out into a room,” explained Inspector César Suárez.
Regarding the health of the people, he stated that “they were calm and fine.”
He also clarified that the five men and seven women were involved, all Mexican, and no foreigners.
Authorities reported that the cause of the failure in the elevator of the Torre Latinoamericana has not yet been determined, so it will be determined in the coming hours whether it will be open to the public.
Through the X account of the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, the situation was under control. The people were treated by emergency services at the scene.
According to the statement, none required hospitalization.
