A demonstration held by CNTE teachers at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) on May 23 came to an end without any major incidents, according to federal sources. The protest, which had been ongoing for several hours, ultimately concluded with the protesters withdrawing from the site.
As they departed, the CNTE teachers sang their anthem and chanted slogans, including “We’re leaving! We’re leaving! But we’ll be back later!” The peaceful conclusion of the protest marked a significant contrast to earlier concerns that the demonstration might escalate into more widespread disruption at the airport.
Despite initial fears about potential disruptions, the protest did not result in any protests being set up inside or outside the AICM. Upon their withdrawal, the protesters began making their way back to an encampment located in Mexico City’s Zócalo area.
Following the departure of the CNTE teachers, members of the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) began preparing to leave the area, and vehicular traffic was reopened on Captain Carlos León Avenue outside Terminal 1 of the airport. Authorities reported that access to the AICM is now fully restored to the general public, with no need for boarding passes.
The successful conclusion of the protest has brought a sense of normalcy back to the airport, allowing travelers and staff to resume their activities without disruption.
