In response to former US President Donald Trump’s plan for mass deportations, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that Mexico is ready to support repatriated Mexicans but insists on resources to repatriate migrants of other nationalities to their home countries.
During a morning conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum emphasized Mexico’s solidarity but stressed the need for a mechanism to repatriate deported individuals from other nationalities with adequate resources and support. She assured that Mexico is prepared to receive its citizens and provide them with a dignified and organized return.
On Sunday, Trump announced his intention to start “the largest deportation operation in the history of the country,” targeting foreign gang members and mafias. He plans to sign executive orders to stop what he calls an invasion.
Sheinbaum detailed that her administration is working on a contingency plan to receive deported Mexicans, involving collaboration with various state secretariats and border state governors. The plan includes social programs, job boards, transportation to their states of origin, and communication with their families.
The Ministry of the Interior announced the “Welcome, Heroines and Heroes, Countrymen” program, running from November 28 to January 12, 2025, to ensure the safe entry, transit, and exit of Mexican citizens visiting from the United States. Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez presented the strategy, which includes 253 service modules across 31 states and Mexico City, providing 670,373 services.
