The inauguration of Mexico’s President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum is happening in Mexico City on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The event is historic — Sheinbaum will be Mexico’s first woman president and the first of Jewish heritage. Just hours before the inauguration, Sheinbaum revealed the Mexican Government’s new emblem on her official X account.

“A young Mexican woman will be the emblem of the Mexican Government. Here I share the image with you,” she wrote.

Several news outlets will be covering the event, scheduled to start at 8 a.m. MT/9 a.m. CT at the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro.

Sheinbaum thanks AMLO for his guidance

After accepting the Presidential Sash, Sheinbaum offered some words of gratitude to former President López Obrador, commonly known as AMLO.

“He who initiated the peaceful return of the Fourth Transformation of public life in Mexico. You have asked us on several occasions not to reveal busts or put your name on streets, avenues or neighborhoods, nor monuments or make large tributes, but it is not necessary because you will always be in the heart of Mexico,” Sheinbaum said.
