In a circular letter dated September 17, Bishop Ramón Castro of Cuernavaca highlighted reports of missing minors and confirmed the existence of a gang involved in child theft, as corroborated by authorities.
One notable case involved Joshua, a baby abducted in Cuautla, Morelos, on July 2. According to La Jornada, Joshua and other minors were rescued on September 17 during a joint operation by the Office of the Attorney General (FGR) and the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) in Chiapas. The FGR reported the arrest of five individuals linked to a minor trafficking ring.
Since the start of Governor Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo’s term on October 1, 2018, there have been 379 reported disappearances of minors in Morelos, predominantly girls. Bishop Castro has called for heightened security in all catechetical centers and urged the community to report any suspicious activities to municipal authorities. He emphasized the collective responsibility of safeguarding children and encouraged the faithful to pray for a transformation towards a secure environment that ensures well-being and harmony.
