It was on August 7th, 2009, when “the house of the grandfather” opened its doors in Ángelópolis, offering a new nighttime entertainment concept inspired by Irish pubs. The favorite pub among many Poblanos is celebrating, as this 2024 marks 15 years since its first business opened on Avenida Circuito Juan Pablo II, and to celebrate it, a birthday party was held in Puebla with artists like Rubén Albarrán and Leonardo Lozanne, plus many wings, beer, and good rock.

It was on August 7th, 2009, when “the house of the grandfather” opened its doors in Ángelópolis, offering a new nighttime entertainment concept inspired by Irish pubs, where young people and adults from that generation would come to listen to the greatest hits of the rock genre. Classics like Metallica, Pearl Jam, Guns N’ Roses, Kiss, and AC/DC were among the most popular bands in this small place, which attracted hundreds of young people every night who came with their friends to enjoy good music and a few beers.

And then there were the famous “wing nights” on Tuesdays when this place was even more crowded back then. McCarthy’s filled with magic and marked the beginning of what is now a great story full of rock, anecdotes, celebrations, moments between friends, and even proposals and weddings at a place where wings, boneless wings, burgers, beers, and good music couldn’t be missing.

After the huge success of the first store in Puebla, McCarthy’s took off and began its expansion process to become a franchise. A few years later, it opened another store in Puebla and one in southeastern Mexico (Mérida).

The brand’s expansion occurred in many cities across the country, from Oaxaca to Playa del Carmen, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Cuernavaca, then reaching major cities like Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City, and later expanding into Latin America, even opening stores outside of the country in cities like Bogotá, Lima, and Asunción, totaling over 105 units.

It’s worth mentioning that McCarthy’s is a brand created by Arturo Martínez “Tuga,” known for his entrepreneurial vision, which belongs to Free & Green, a leading company in creating experiences in the hospitality industry in Mexico and LATAM, with over 100 restaurants and bars internationally.

Puebla celebrates 15 years of McCarthy’s

As Puebla was the birthplace of McCarthy’s, it couldn’t help but shine during its celebration. To celebrate, it offered a concert at the Juárez branch, featuring artists like Rubén Albarrán and Leonardo Lozanne.

The event, held on Friday night August 23rd, attracted hundreds of people, many of whom had waited in line since earlier hours to be part of this great anniversary party, where acts like Leonardo Lozanne, Rubén Albarrán, Los Senseishons, Poncho Toledo, and Mauricio Clavería performed popular songs, prompting cheers and applause from the crowd.

“We’re grateful to everyone. The party was dedicated to the anniversary, although the first store was in Circuito, we know that Juárez is an iconic space, so we wanted people to be more comfortable, also due to the presence of the performers,” said Johan Gómez, marketing area manager for the company, in an interview with this medium.

Without a doubt, a night full of snacks and beers, but most importantly, excellent music, was what Poblanos experienced during this grand celebration that shows why McCarthy’s continues to “rock” its followers.
