J.D. Vance accuses Mexico of stealing American jobs with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)

The Trump associate claimed that the United States has lost many good and high-quality jobs since the agreement was signed in 1994. Michael Tyler, communication director for Biden-Harris duo, asserts that the Republicans’ Project 2025 will make Trump become a “dictator from day one” and end with doing whatever he wants to the Constitution.

In his first speech as Republican vice presidential candidate, J.D. Vance stated that the United States has lost large amounts of jobs, many of them high-quality, due to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Mexico and Canada.

“When I was in fourth grade -he said- a career politician named Joe Biden supported NAFTA, which is a bad commercial agreement for the United States that caused good manufacturing jobs in the US to go to Mexico.” Vance set the tone for the Republican speech in Milwaukee by accepting his second position on Trump’s strategy. However, Vance did not mention that it was Republicans who promoted and signed trade agreements with their Canadian and Mexican counterparts. In 1993, 34 Republican votes against 27 Democratic votes supported an agreement that took effect on January 1, 1994, when George Bush was the American Union president.

During the speech, Vance was enthusiastically applauded by attendees at the Republican convention, where he reaffirmed his commitment to reviewing the scope of the current US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). He reasserted his stance on organized crime cartels and his desire to curb immigration to the United States.

Michael Tyler, communication director for the Democratic campaign composed of President Biden and Kamala Harris, responded with equal bluntness:

“Tonight, J.D. Vance, the kid from the Project 2025 poster, has taken center stage. But it’s working-class families and the middle class who will suffer if he’s allowed to stay there.”

Vance, backed by Silicon Valley and multi-millionaires who bought his vice presidential selection, is a human embodiment of the Project 2025 agenda that puts extremism and the ultra-rich above our democracy. “An agenda that cuts healthcare, prohibits abortion, cuts Social Security and Medicare, and is a rubber stamp for Donald Trump to become a dictator ‘on day one’ and ‘do whatever he wants with our Constitution’.”

Tyler claimed that an economic agenda like Project 2025 will increase costs for American families while multi-millionaires and corporations benefit from tax cuts. “It turns its back on our allies, makes the United States less safe, and gives green light to dictators to do what Trump said, ‘do whatever they want with our allies’.”
