On Friday, July 19th, a worldwide failure was reported on Microsoft’s servers, affecting airline services, communication media, electronic devices, and other tools supported by the company.
Despite this international issue, Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) issued a statement regarding the thousands of passengers affected by flight cancellations in our country.
According to Mexican authorities, airlines must provide detailed and timely information about flights cancelled due to Microsoft’s failures, aiming to avoid further disruptions for users.
What if my flight was affected by Microsoft’s server failure?
As mentioned earlier, Profeco emphasized that despite the Microsoft cloud issues, airlines must keep passengers informed about their flight status and provide legal protection in case of flight cancellations or delays.
Article 47 Bis of Mexico’s Civil Aviation Law states that passengers have a right to a dignified treatment and necessary information to find alternatives for their travels.

If your flight has been cancelled due to the Microsoft cloud issues, first you need to go to the customer service module at different airports and airlines within Mexico.
The official airport instances will mediate and inform about options in case of flight delays or cancellations.
What do airlines owe passengers for flight cancellations in Mexico?
According to Mexican regulations and statutes, people affected by flight delays or cancellations have a right to:
– Receive discounts for subsequent flights to the same destination
– Food and drinks (applicable only if there are delays exceeding 4 hours)
– A reduction of up to 7.5% of the ticket cost if the delay is between 2-4 hours
– Refund of the paid passage and an indemnity not less than 25% of the ticket price if the delay exceeds 4 hours
