Gol Linhas Aéreas announced that it will resume its flights to Cancun (CUN), Mexico, starting December 10, 2024, from Brasilia (BSB). The flights had been suspended in February 2023 due to low occupancy.
According to Aeroin, Gol will be the only company connecting Cancun with Brazil, since LATAM and Aeromexico fly to Mexico City (MEX), both from São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU).
“The resumption of Gol’s direct flights to Cancun fills us with optimism and reinforces the company’s internationalization process, marked by continuous expansion. Currently, the company serves 12 international destinations in America, a number that includes Bogotá, Colombia, where the company began operations at the end of March this year. Recently, we announced San José (Costa Rica) and Aruba as our new exclusive destinations in Central America and the Caribbean, with trips starting in November and December, respectively,” said Rafael Araújo, Gol’s Director of Air Planning.
Initially, Gol will have two flights per week on its Boeing 737 MAX 8, with a capacity for 176 passengers, for an offer of 704 seats per week. According to Brazil’s ANAC, in 2022, the airline transported 46,792 passengers.
The new destination joins the already announced flights to Aruba (AUA) and San José (SJO), Costa Rica, from São Paulo/Guarulhos, which will start at the end of 2024. With this, there is a clear objective with leisure and beach destinations, which will accompany its current operations to Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic; Orlando (MCO) and Miami (MIA), United States; and Mendoza (MDZ), Argentina, which are notable for their movement of Brazilian tourists.
“The viability of operations to Cancun, one of the world’s largest tourist destinations and currently without direct flights from Brazil, represents an immense gain for Brazilians, Mexicans, and other leisure travelers from all over South America. Gol’s goal is to bring our people closer together and contribute to the development of tourism throughout the region,” concluded Araújo.
