Modernization of the CIIT Will Bear Fruit and Consolidate Mexico as a Strategic Hub in Global Trade
The Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) promises to become one of the most significant infrastructure works of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government. The president emphasized that this project is not just a complement to the Panama Canal but a crucial alternative for connecting the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, already attracting the interest of numerous investors.
The existing track, built in the era of Porfirio Díaz and recently rehabilitated by the current administration, is a testament to the historical vision of the development of the Isthmus. However, the new track is projected exclusively for container cargo, thus optimizing efficiency and commercial flow.
During his morning conference, the head of state pointed out that “this project is going to be developed, there is a lot, a lot of interest, I cannot speak more, but this is one of the most desired projects.”
Additionally, the president highlighted the progress already made in the modernization of the ports of Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos, the construction of a breakwater, the installation of several development poles, and the rehabilitation of the existing track. With these developments, López Obrador affirmed that the CIIT “is going to bear fruit,” highlighting its potential to transform the region and consolidate Mexico as a strategic hub in international trade.
