CFE announces DISCOUNT for the hot season in Mexico; in which states will it apply?

258

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is a fundamental piece in the lives of millions of Mexicans because they are the reason we have a connection to electrical energy, so this news will not only be good for you but also for your pocket, as it is about a discount, but where and to whom will it apply?

Being the entity in charge of providing electrical energy throughout the country, with the arrival of summer, many users wonder if they will be able to benefit from any discount on their electricity bills, so we reveal it to you below.

What is the summer subsidy?

The summer subsidy is a measure implemented by the Mexican federal government, in collaboration with the CFE, to help lower the cost of electrical energy during the hottest months of the year.

This subsidy is intended for certain states where high temperatures significantly increase the use of energy due to air conditioning and other cooling devices.

Which states will benefit from the summer subsidy in May?

Since May 1, residents of Sinaloa, Baja California, and Nayarit can enjoy this subsidy on their electricity bills. Additionally, since April 1, users in Sonora have also started to receive special discounts.

According to the Sinaloa state government, these benefits are the result of agreements between state governors and the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with certain state governments providing resources contributed by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit and applied through the Federal Electricity Commission.

How is the discount obtained?

According to the CFE, to access these discounts, it is necessary to meet certain criteria established in the guidelines of the IF rate.

This rate applies exclusively to domestic services that are not considered high consumption, according to the DAC Rate (High Consumption). The specific conditions include:

Exclusive domestic use

The subsidy is for homes that use energy for domestic and not commercial purposes.

Average temperature

The locality must have a minimum average monthly temperature of 33°C during the summer. This criterion is verified if this threshold has been reached for at least three of the last five years.

Temperature monitoring

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) is responsible for preparing temperature reports, ensuring that localities meet the necessary requirements.

The summer subsidy is automatically applied to the electricity bills of eligible users. This means that citizens of Sinaloa, Baja California, Nayarit, and Sonora will see a reduction in their electricity rates without the need to carry out any additional procedures.

The discount will be in effect from May to October, coinciding with the months of higher energy consumption due to high temperatures.

The main benefit of this subsidy is the economic aid it represents for many families, especially those in regions where extreme heat is part of daily life.

In addition, it promotes the conscious use of energy by reducing the cost associated with the use of cooling appliances, which can contribute to greater energy efficiency in homes.
