The monarchs have scheduled visits in Mexico City and Yucatan
During the night of Monday, March 11, in a representative ceremony at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, María Teresa Mercado, welcomed King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia at the formal start of their State Visit to the country.
The meeting was attended by the Mexican ambassador to Sweden, Alejandro Alday, the ambassador of Sweden to Mexico, Gunnar Aldén, and the Director-General of Protocol, thus marking the beginning of this significant visit.
Furthermore, the Government of Sweden will be represented by the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell.
Regarding the arrival of the kings to Mexico, this occasion is the third time that a Swedish monarch arrives in the country, after the visits made in 1982 and 2002. For the new meeting, they have scheduled encounters both in Mexico City and Yucatan, with key events planned, including an official reception at the National Palace presided over by the President of the Mexican Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
According to the Swedish Royal House, the aim of this meeting is to consolidate the good relations between Sweden and Mexico and to strengthen economic and political ties, focusing on innovation, partnership, trade, and investment.

Tuesday, March 12
The State Visit to Mexico will be from Tuesday, March 12 to Thursday, March 14; the itinerary of the kings of Sweden will begin with a floral offering and an official welcome ceremony led by the Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his wife, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, at the National Palace.
This will be followed by a bilateral meeting with the presidential couple, they will also visit the Senate of Mexico, and finally, the day will conclude with a dinner offered by the King and Queen.
Wednesday, March 13
For the second day, business matters and children’s rights will be the central theme; in the morning, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden will inaugurate the Mexico-Sweden Business Forum, where topics such as sustainable transport solutions, sustainable mining, the telecommunications industry, and health will be discussed.
They will continue with a visit to the SOS Children’s Villages and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). After lunch with representatives of the business sector, the king will inaugurate the new offices of Ericsson in Mexico City. Then, the Kings will have a meeting with Swedes residing in the country, and the day will conclude with a presentation of traditional Mexican dances at the Palace of Fine Arts.
Thursday, March 14
On the third day, the monarchs will go to the city of Mérida, Yucatán, where they will visit Uxmal, and later have a meeting with representatives of the indigenous Maya and Yaqui peoples. Later that same day, the kings will meet with the Governor of Yucatán.
