Mexico tops the ranking of the most violent cities in the world


Sixteen of the 50 cities where the most homicides are committed per 10,000 inhabitants are located in Mexico. Seven of them are among the top 10.

This is according to the 2023 Ranking of the 50 most violent cities in the world, presented by the Citizen Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice.

José Antonio Ortega Sánchez, president of the organization, indicated that Colima, in the state of Colima, is the most violent entity, for the seventh consecutive year, with a rate of 140.32 homicides.

The second place is occupied by Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, with a rate of 117.83; the third place, it is compared with Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with 117.24.

Manzanillo, Colima (Mexico)

Tijuana, Baja California (Mexico)

Zacatecas, Zacatecas (Mexico)

Guayaquil (Ecuador)

Mandela Bay (South Africa)

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua (Mexico)

While Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico, is located in place 12; Cuernavaca, Morelos, in 13; Acapulco, Guerrero, in 15; Uruapan, Michoacán, in 18; Irapuato, Guanajuato, in 20; León, Guanajuato, in 23; Chihuahua, Chihuahua, in 35; Cancun, Quintana Roo, in 40, and Morelia, Michoacán, in 45.

“16 Mexican cities are within the 50 most dangerous and within the first 10, 7 are Mexican; it is something extremely serious and it is a reflection of the violence that we are experiencing in the country.
