Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, rejected on Thursday, January 26th, that there are risks to the organization of the 2024 elections, after his plan B of the electoral reform.
This is after this Wednesday the National Electoral Institute (INE) announced that it will challenge the president’s proposal since it will “dynamite” democracy and risk the elections.
In this sense, he asserted that those who do that are the agency’s own officials and that as far as the law is concerned, “it is nothing more than lowering their salaries because they earn a lot of money and waste public money, that also bothers them.”
He also accused the INE of allowing the stuffing of ballot boxes, the falsification of minutes, the theft of electoral packages, the purchase of votes, and the registration of presidential candidates who did not meet the requirements.
Counselors of the autonomous body have warned that the reform will reduce its workforce by 85 percent, in addition to eliminating 300 district boards and affecting the operation of service modules.
