The Russian ambassador to Mexico, Viktor Koronelli, thanked the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for not joining the sanctions imposed on his country for the invasion of Ukraine.

“We very much respect the position demonstrated for several months by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, that Mexico will never unite with anti-Russian sanctions and that never, despite requests of the Ukrainian government, will never supply weapons to Ukraine,” said Víktor Koronelli, the Russian ambassador to Mexico.

During the installation of the Mexico-Russia Friendship Group, in the Chamber of Deputies, Ambassador Koronelli stated that his country’s military operation in Ukraine is against military installations, but not against the civilian population.

“The Russian military does everything possible, I confirm, to avoid casualties among the civilian population, the attacks are carried out only against military installations and with high-precision weapons, unfortunately, we see that the Ukrainian radicals deploy tanks and artillery near the kindergarten and schools, use children and women as human shields, some 8,000 foreign citizens have become hostages of the nationalist battalions, in quotes, which are no longer controlled even by the official authorities in kyiv”, said Viktor Koronelli, Russian ambassador to Mexico.

He assured that Russia is the victim of a Western media war, for which he distributed among the deputies photographs of what he called the new Nazi regime in kyiv, which caused the military intervention.

The installation of the Mexico-Russia Friendship Group, which will be chaired by PT member Alberto Anaya, was not attended by deputies from the PAN, PRD, Green Party, and Citizen Movement… Only legislators from the Labor Party, Morena, and one from the PRI, while the Citizen Movement demonstrated outside the hall with anti-war signs.
