Aeromexico is to resume flights between Heathrow and Mexico City from 1 April as Covid-19 travel restrictions continue to be eased.

The Mexican carrier plans to operate five weekly flights on the route between the UK capital and Mexico City, using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Aeromexico said the restoration of the London route means that it will operate more than 330 flights per month between Mexico and Europe from April.

The airline, which is a SkyTeam member, is already operating routes from Amsterdam, Madrid, and Paris to Mexico City, as well as services from Madrid to Guadalajara and Monterrey, which were both launched as new routes in December 2021.

Giancarlo Mulinelli, Aeromexico’s senior vice president of global sales, said: “We celebrate our return to Heathrow, which is one of our customers’ preferred routes for business and leisure travel.

“We resume service with our best airplanes, and we are sure that we will continue connecting Mexico with Europe offering the best service and the highest health and hygiene protocols.”

Aeromexico has been operating flights to London since 2012 and passengers can connect to more than 40 domestic destinations in Mexico.

Heathrow’s chief commercial officer Ross Baker said the return of the Mexico City route would provide a “great platform” to rebuild trade between the UK and Mexico post-pandemic.

“With travel restrictions easing and the airline resuming five flights a week to Mexico City, passengers now have more choice and businesses can go back to developing stronger trade links with one of the largest emerging markets in the world,” added Baker.
