Free toll booths in Mexico proposed by Morena deputy

The morenista bench stressed that the vehicular influx on toll roads and bridges extends, on many occasions, for several kilometers of stopped cars, hindering the time of arrival of users to their destinations.

The Morena faction in the Chamber of Deputies presented a bill to allow the free and free circulation of private vehicles on toll roads and highways during road congestion.

The project of reforms to the Law of Roads, Bridges and Federal Autotransportation also provides for the obligation to reduce rates by 40 percent when the roads are under repair or maintenance operations.

Through deputy Pablo Amílcar Sandoval, the Morenista bench stressed that the influx of vehicles on toll roads and bridges extends, on many occasions, for several kilometers of stopped cars, hindering the time of arrival of users to their places of destination.

He argued that, in order to materialize, the right to free transit or make it possible, and hence when people use a vehicle as a means they exercise this right.

Sandoval pointed out, therefore, the importance of roads and bridges allowing full mobility of people and goods, as well as the economic and social development of states and municipalities.

In his statement of reasons, the Morena legislator accused the deficiency of technology in some roads and toll bridges in the country that do not have an intelligent transportation system (ITS), as established by international standards on the matter.”The above is due to the lack of investment of past administrations, so it is not a problem of the last three years, but a problem of more than 15 years, thus leaving a bad collection design in the country’s toll booths”, he indicated.

He recalled that the government of Enrique Peña Nieto granted maintenance concessions for 15 highways that annually cost 15 billion pesos; “Therefore, at the voice of the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a process of renegotiating the concessions has been initiated.”

The deputy for the state of Guerrero warned that, in order to reverse this process, it is necessary for the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT) to review the concessions and require the concessionaires to have ITS systems to make transportation more efficient, safe, reliable and comfortable. traffic on the road infrastructure.
