Due to the increase in infections and concern about the new omicron variant, the new year concert that would take place in the Glorieta de la Palma on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City has been postponed.

On Tuesday morning, the Mayor of CDMX, Claudia Sheinbaum, had mentioned the possibility of postponing the end-of-the-year celebration. Later, the statement issued by the government of the capital endorsed the decision.

During the inauguration of the Christmas festival, the head of Government invited citizens to attend the end of the year concert, where Los Ángeles Azules would perform to receive 2022. According to Sheinbaum, the cancellation of the celebration is not an alarm, but rather a measure that is taken to respect health protocols and a measure to prevent any emergency.

Despite the cancellation of the end-of-year performance, the president assured that there will be no change in the epidemiological traffic lights or any other restriction. She acknowledged the increase in cases and noted that the number of hospitalizations or deaths has not increased.

On the other hand, the statement also says that the Christmas festival in the Zócalo of Mexico City will close earlier than planned. Those who wish to visit it will have until December 30 to do so.
