AMLO wants to relaunch bankrupt Mexicana airlines, job openings announced

The National Institute of Social Economy (Inaes) will launch in 15 days a call for the workers of the extinct Mexicana de Aviación who wish to work in the new airline of the government of the Fourth transformation (4T) that will be used by the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA ).

The call will include workers who were active as of August 28, 2010, including independent workers. While the airline considers a fleet of up to 60 aircraft in five years and 1,200 employees at startup.

According to the plans, the company would be managed by a cooperative in which employees and investors participate, who would contribute 60% of the estimated 155 million dollars to re-start operations. The remaining amount would be obtained from a loan granted through the development bank.

According to a publication by Reforma, the group of investors interested in the new airline is headed by Salvador Álvarez, general director of Altán Redes, a company that works with the federal government on the Internet for All project, and is currently in the process of competition trade.

He added that “the instruction of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is to create a commercial airline that benefits Mexicana de Aviación workers, who are legally considered as such because they have not been liquidated. The call is only addressed to them ”.

In another publication, El Diario 24 Horas mentioned that the proposal for the new airline was presented on Friday, July 23, in a meeting with officials of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), pilots, and businessmen, where Jorge Ordóñez, head of the Office of said unit.

“From the government of Mexico we want to propose to you a possibility of actually putting ourselves to work in the construction of a new company, a new airline… that would open a new paradigm, it would be to generate a joint venture where we can combine talents, financial means, but especially the business media, ”said a government official.

This official stressed that “soon” they will be seeing the first plane take off with great emotion and “with a very important purpose, which is to provide a service to a country that has poor connectivity, a high-quality service of a project that is born here of an association with importance ”.

For his part, Álvarez commented that the new airline’s model would consist of having five average daily flights per plane; 85% annual average occupancy, surpassing Volaris (86%) or pairing with Viva Aerobus (85%); have routes of two hours average at a rate of 1,800 pesos.

He also proposed that it be 120 people per trip, at the beginning; 1.8 million passengers in the first year; in five years, start with international routes such as Houston, San Antonio, and Los Angeles; generate 2,000 jobs in the first year and 7,000 upon reaching 60 airplanes.
