The Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, started the operation at the Transfer Station and Selection Plant Azcapotzalco, with a capacity to receive around 1,400 tons of garbage, to process 1,000 tons.

The president said that the purpose is to guarantee access to a healthy environment, one of the pillars of her administration, it is also the most modern plant in Latin America with European technology.

The new selection and transfer plant had an investment of around 385 million pesos and was built on a site of 11 thousand square meters on a site that was abandoned.

The selection and transfer process will receive the solid waste generated in the municipalities of Azcapotzalco, Gustavo A. Madero, Miguel Hidalgo, and Cuauhtémoc.

300 garbage collection trucks will be received per day. The vehicles will enter a scale, where they will be weighed and a search and access control will be made. They will go up a ramp to the transfer station, where they will deposit their cargo.

In this plant it will be possible to recover recyclables and fuels derived from waste; transfers to separation plants are eliminated and the final disposal of solid waste is reduced. The recyclable materials will be sold to generate an income of 48 million pesos a year and reducing their shipment to landfills will save 40 million pesos a year.
