Israel bans entry to travelers arriving from Mexico

The reason is because the country along with six other countries is considered a high-risk country, said the Israeli Embassy in Mexico.

“As of May 3, 2021, a new regulation came into force that will not allow entry to Israel to foreign passengers (who do not have Israeli nationality or residence) who travel from Mexico or who have spent the last 14 days in national territory, even those who are already fully vaccinated. Therefore, the Israeli Embassy in Mexico will suspend all permits to enter Israel as of today. ”The document reads.

Israel launched a new regulation for travelers in the face of the COVID-19 case spikes and the variants that are registered in the world.

On Monday, the new measure came into force that does not allow entry to foreign passengers (without Israeli nationality or residence) who travel from Mexico or who have spent the last 14 days in national territory, although they already have the complete vaccination scheme.

“The reason is because Mexico along with six other countries is considered a high-risk country due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its variants,” said the Israeli Embassy in Mexico, which suspended all permits on Monday.

Meanwhile, foreign passengers who already have a valid permit issued by the embassy will have the green light. “They will have to be quarantined for 14 days in a government facility.”

Returning Israeli citizens will have the opportunity to conduct home quarantine.

The entry of foreigners is exceptionally authorized, in accordance with the following provisions:

  1. Applications for exceptional entry permits must be submitted online,  https://govforms.gov.il/mw/forms/ [email protected] .
  2. People who do not have an entry authorization will not be allowed to board flights to Israel.
  3. It is required to present the negative result of a COVID.19 test (PCR), carried out within 72 hours prior to departure from the port of origin, as well as to undergo a second test at the time of entering Israel.
  4. Entry to Israel will be subject to the presentation of proof of medical insurance that includes coverage against COVID-19.
  5. The authorities may consider the income in the following cases:
  • People who are going to receive urgent medical treatment, or as a companion of a dependent person who is in that case.
  • To attend funeral services for a family member in the first degree.
  • To attend an emergency of a family member in the first degree, who does not have the support of another person in their place of residence.
  • To attend face-to-face judicial processes that cannot be carried out remotely.
  • In the case of a woman who is in the third trimester of pregnancy.
  • For humanitarian reasons or special needs that require entry to Israel.
  • To comply with an essential official commission related to international relations or international security of Israel, with prior authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense or the Prime Minister’s Office.
  • In the event that the person resides permanently in Israel and has left the country in compliance with the applicable dissipations on a date prior to the announcement of entry restrictions.
  • Professional athletes participating in official competitions abroad and the person accompanying them, with prior authorization from the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
  • Those who have an immigration visa or are in the process of immigrating under absorption programs (Aliyá), with prior authorization from the Ministry of Absorption or the Jewish Agency.
  • Foreign workers essential to keep the economy running.
  • Students, participants in exchange programs for the Jewish diaspora (Masá) and students of religious educational centers (Yeshivas).
  • People who volunteer.

People entering Israel must comply with a fourteen-day quarantine, unless they present a certificate of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19. Confinement can be reduced to ten days if negative PCR test results are obtained upon entering Israel and nine days after arrival.

Trips from Mexico

People with Israeli citizenship or residence from a country considered to be of “high health risk” must remain in mandatory quarantine, even if they have received vaccines or have certificates of recovery from COVID-19.

Foreign persons from these destinations, whose entry to Israel is exceptionally authorized, must comply with a mandatory quarantine period  in facilities managed by the Israeli authorities.
